A. IF I DO

- Cách dùng: Câu điều kiện loại 1 diễn trả một sự việc/hành động có thể xảy ra ở hiện tại hoặc tương lai.

Cấu trúc: If + S + V (-s/-es) + O…, S' + will + V bare + O + …

► Lưu ý:

Will có thể được thay bằng can/may/shall/must

 

Mệnh đề chính và mệnh đề if có thể đứng trước hoặc đứng sau đều được.

Ví dụ:

• If you take this medicine, you will feel better.
  (Nếu bạn uống thuốc, thì bạn sẽ thấy đỡ hơn đó)

• If it stops raining, we can go out.
  (Nếu như trời ngừng mưa thì chúng tôi có thể đi ra ngoài)

B. IF I DID

- Cách sử dụng: Câu điều kiện loại 2 (câu if 2) là câu điều kiện không có thật ở hiện tại. Câu điều kiện loại 2 được sử dụng để diễn tả một điều không thể xảy ra ở hiện tại hoặc tương lai, chỉ là một giả thiết, một ước muốn trái ngược với thực trạng hiện tại.

Cấu trúc câu: If + S + V2/-ed + …, S' + would/could (not) + V bare + O + …

Lưu ý: Động từ to be ở tất cả các ngôi đều phải chia là were.

Ví dụ:

• If I were you, I would help him.
  (Nếu tôi là anh, tôi sẽ giúp anh ta)

• If you tried hard again, you would succeed.
  (Nếu bạn cố gắng chăm chỉ lần nữa, bạn sẽ thành công thôi)

b What would you do if there was a fire in the building?

5 You’ve never lost your passport. You can only imagine it.

6 Somebody stops you and asks the way to a bank. Which do you say?

a If you go right at the end of this street, you’ll see a bank on your left.

b If you went right at the end of this street, you’d see a bank on your left.

7 You’re in a lift. There is an emergency button. Nobody is going to press it. Which do you say?
