Ngữ pháp tiếng anh luyện thi TOEIC – Unit 87: So sánh nhất – Học Hay

So sánh nhất trong tiếng anh được dùng cho 3 người, vật, sự việc, tính chất trở lên. Đối tượng được so sánh nhất sẽ là đối tượng vượt trội hơn hay kém hơn các đối tượng còn lại. Cấu trúc so sánh nhất:

1. Tính từ/ trạng từ ngắn:

S + V + the + short adj/adv -est + Noun/ Pronoun/ Clause

Ví dụ: Nam is the tallest boy in the class.

(Nam là bạn trai cao nhất lớp)

2. Tính từ/ trạng từ dài:

S + V + the most + long adj/adv + Noun/ Pronoun/ Clause

Ví dụ: Trung is the most handsome boy in the neighborhood.

(Trung đẹp trai nhất xóm)

- So sánh kém nhất:

S + V + the least + Tính từ/Trạng từ + Noun/ Pronoun/ Clause

Ví dụ: Her ideas were the least practical suggestions.

(Ý tưởng của cô ấy là những đề nghị thiếu tính thực tiễn nhất)

► Một số lưu ý:

- So sánh nhất có thể được nhấn mạnh bằng cách thêm almost (hầu như); much (nhiều); quite (tương đối); by far/ far (rất nhiều) vào trước hình thức so sánh

- Most khi được dùng với nghĩa very (rất) thì không có the đứng trước và không có ngụ ý so sánh

► Quy tắc thay đổi tính từ trong phép so sánh:

- Đối với tính từ/trạng từ dài trên 3 âm tiết, thêm the most vào trước

- Đối với tính từ/trạng từ ngắn, ta thêm –est vào cuối.

- Thêm đuôi -est cho tính từ có 1 âm tiết hoặc 2 âm tiết tận cùng là –y (happy, lucky), -er(clever), -ow (narrow), -le (simple, gentle), -ure (mature), -et (trừ quiet, polite)

- Nếu tính từ tận cùng là –y thì khi thêm đuôi –est, -y sẽ chuyển thành –i (early → earliest, happy → happiest)

- Nếu tính từ tận cùng là một phụ âm và trước phụ âm đó là nguyên âm thì ta gấp đôi phụ âm cuối (big → biggest)

► Phân biệt trạng từ/tính từ ngắn và tính từ dài:

- Các tính từ và trạng từ ngắn:

+ Tính từ có 1 âm tiết hoặc 2 âm tiết tận cùng là –y (happy, lucky), -er (clever), -ow (narrow), -le(simple, gentle), -ure (mature), -et (trừ quiet, polite)

+ Trạng từ có 1 âm tiết (fast, hard) hoặc 2 âm tiết (early)

- Các tính từ và trạng từ dài:

+ Tính từ, trạng từ có 2 âm tiết trở lên (normal, boring, interesting)

+ Tính từ tận cùng là –ly (slowly, quickly, dangerously)

+ Tính từ hai âm tiết đuôi –ing và –ed ; –full và –less (boring – bored; carefull – careless)
