Đĩa số 8 - Master Spoken English

Trong đĩa này, cảnh (scenes) 1 & 2 dùng để luyện các dạng rút gọn (contractions) để tạo ra một lối nói trôi chảy hơn.

Cảnh 3 & 4 nhấn mạnh vào bài luyện ngữ điệu (intondation) và sự thay đổi độ cao của giọng (pitch jumps). Hãy chú ý sự tế nhị trong những trường hợp thay đổi giọng, vì khi người nói thay đổi độ cao của giọng, họ muốn chuyển tải thêm hoặc thay đổi nghĩa của phát ngôn. Người nói không bao giờ nhắc đi nhắc lại một phát ngôn nhiều lần giống y như nhau, tức là nói theo kiểu “sing-songy”. Ngữ điệu thể hiện cả mức độ tình cảm (emotion) và thái độ (attitude) trong giao tiếp, mà từ riêng lẻ không có khả năng thể hiện.

Cảnh 5 & 6 nhấn mạnh vào các bài luyện luyến âm (linking) coi nhữ phần tiếp tục luyện của Structural and Consonant Action.

Jackie: You’re not American.

Jackie: Are you here on business or just visiting?

Paolo: I’m here on business. My name’s Paolo Colombini. ‘What’ s your name?

Jackie: My name’s Jackie Bergman. I am American. You speak English very well.

Paolo: No, not so well. I speak a little.

Jackie: No, no, you speak very well.

Jackie: All right, let’s begin. OK, Ron, stand up, please. Sharon, move to the other chair, and Karen, move that light to the right, a little more. Good. OK, Ron, stand behind Sharon, lean on the chair. Good. And Sharon, open the box and take the perfume bottle in your hands, and sit back, cross your legs. Karen, turn on the fan, please.
