Đĩa số 9 - Master spoken English

Những cảnh dùng để luyện sau đây sẽ thách thức hơn các bài rước, Những cuộc hội thoại sẽ nhanh hơn và rất giống với thực tế cuộc sống.

Nếu các bạn không theo kịp, hãy cố gắng nắm bắt theo khả năng của mình, cố gắng lầm quen với cảnh có nhiều nhóm có luyến âm. Bạn chỉ cần nắm được một nhóm từ trong một cầu, thậm chí một nguyên âm hoặc một phụ âm... Thế là tiến bộ rồi. Sau đó thông qua luyện tập bạn sẽ ngày càng nắm được nhiều hơn. Cứ khổ công luyện đi luyện lại bài tập nầy (scene) cho đến khi nắm được tất cả các nguyên âm, phụ âm, chỗ luyến âm, và ngữ điệu, và thế là bạn đã hoàn thành bài luyện rất thách thức này. Cứ làm dân từng bước. Đừng nản!

Không cần phải chạy kịp người nói khi luyện theo đoạn hội thoại. Bạn có thể đi chậm hơn một chút, Điều quan trọng là bạn phải cắm nhận được những điểm rung khi nói. Khi đã quen với bài luyện, bạn hãy cố gắng chạy theo tốc độ của người nói, và bất chước giống hệt cách nói và cảm giác của người nói. Các bạn cứ luyện đến chừng nào không phải quan tâm nhiều đến “văn bản” trên hình, thì lúc đó bạn sẽ tập trung được nhiều hơn vào phương thức và phong cách phát âm của người nói.

Bây giờ chúng tạ áp dụng những kỹ thuật phát âm đã học. Hãy luyện đọc to một bài báo (Readers Digest có nhiều chú để hay viết bằng tiếng Mỹ).

Bước 1: Đọc, quan tâm đến cấu trúc âm

Bước 2 & 3: Nhắc lại

Đọc một đoạn, chú ý phát âm phụ âm thể hiện giá trị nhạc điệu của nó.

Đọc lại đoạn đó, dùng phụ âm để biểu thị nghĩa của từ, Các bạn còn nhớ ví dụ về từ “wrote” không? Nếu đọc thiếu phụ âm cuối sẽ tạo ra một từ khó hiểu.

Chú ý những yếu tố quan trọng của một chuỗi lời nói: luyến âm, ngữ điệu, dùng độ cao của giọng để làm nổi nghĩa chính của một phát ngôn.

Áp dụng những điều đã học vào lối nói hàng ngày của mình.

Cảnh sau đây trích từ phim “ The Last Adventure” quay tại Sudan, Tây Phi.

Trong phim có nhiều giọng khác nhau, nhưng có giọng Mỹ chuẩn của vai Giáo sư Malair do Barry Sullivan đóng. Giọng nói của ông rất sâu (đeep), rung (vibrating) và vang (resonant). Ông đã từng nhiều năm làm diễn viên sân khấu. Arthur Kennedy đóng vai Doc và Burt Reynolds đóng vai Caine cũng vậy, là những ví dụ điển hình sử dụng dạng yếu của từ, luyến âm, và độ cao của giọng.

Anna: Why aren’t you suspicious of the local Arabs?

 

Malair: I’m afraid you still don’t understand our breed. Back in the States skin-diving has practically replaced baseball. First thing an American would want to do is dive with me. I can’t take a chance on that.

Caine: You know, he must have been out of his skull to be, uh…snooping around down there.

Malair: What gives you the idea he was snooping?

Caine: Just a term, Professor. ­

Malair: Yeah, well, he just fell overboard in shark country. At least he died in the world’s greatest laboratory.

Cutne: Well, that’s something to look forward to. You really think you’re going to solve the world’s hunger problem, Professor?

Malair: You really mean you give a damn’?

Caine: No, but I  like to-w-eat,

Malair: Mr. Caine, tapping the ocean’s mineral reserves will solve your eating problem. Without fish the world would starve to death.

Caine: Any sharks down there?

Malair: Naturally.

Caine: Well, aren't you going to carry a gun or something?

Malair: Sharks are cowards, Mr. Caine, haven’t you heard? If I carry a gun, I'm just looking for trouble. The only thing that makes a shark dangerous is the smell of blood. When he tastes it, he goes berserk. If I happen to hit one shark, all his friends will come like a short.

Caine: Just out of curiosity, Professor, what's your favorite food?

Malair: I hate fish. Can’t stand the taste of it.

Doe: Yeah, that’s right. Now, naturally, I’m not going to ask you for anything outlandish, but for something that I think you can afford.

Runt: How much do you want?

Doc: All I want is a nice, big bottle of arak.

Runt: No!

Doc: What do you mean “no”? That was a very delicate operation. I demand payment!

Runt: I demand a Havana cigar!

Doc: You demand a what?

Runt: A nice, big Havana cigar!

Doc: Oh, come now, come now, you’re too young to smoke.

Runt: You're too old to drink!
